less than 2 weeks to shoot the MW core again. Where are you planning your first MW of 2019?

I think I will wait until first weekend of Feb. End of Jan still has 50% moon high in the sky. For location, maybe Joshua Tree NP.

Sadly I’ll probably wait until February too. Even driving and hour or two, the light pollution around me seems to wash the core out unless it’s pretty high in the sky but I’m excited for it’s return!!

Ryan, I see you are around the corner from me, I am in YL. Maybe we meet up in JTNP sometime? I typically shoot solo but enjoy running into crazy camera toting people in the middle of the desert sometimes… I have heard plenty of superb owls in JT but have yet to spot one, maybe Feb 3rd. ha ha

Chris. Send me a message through FB. I am contemplating heading out to the desert the night of 1/31, (Thursday night), because of my son’s soccer schedule that first weekend of February. We get about 65 minutes of MW action, but it’s nearly sitting on the horizon the entire time. Hopefully the park is open by then. The only two good spots I think will be Queen Valley and Pinto Basin, since there are no tall mountains on the horizon in those areas. If the park is still closed, I will drive all the way out near Scorpius Arch.

I have no idea where to go. I am in Far Northern Australia so guess I will have plenty of choices. I have never chased the core but just want to get out and get some data to try editing!

Yeah, I’ve not made it out except for the lunar eclipse and the lunar conjunction with Venus earlier this month. I was clouded out on my primary location and had to drive 30 miles further at the last minute. By the time I got there and hour later, it was too light for the Milky Way.
