I'm glad you liked the article! I also switched from Canon to Pentax in 2017, mostly because of the low cost and because of the infamous weather-sealing.

Correct! It's a nice, universal file type that a majority of processing software supports.

Hey Bryan! As long as you don't turn your camera off or your camera's GPS off, the GPS will remain calibrated. The GPS calibration is what it says; it calibrates the GPS system. Astrotracer just uses information from the GPS to move and rotate the sensor.. Hope this helped!...
